Quantum Portfolio Management Limited specialises in providing investment management services to clients who have received an award of damages for catastrophic personal injury or clinical negligence.
Such clients have specific investment needs requiring a specialist approach to the management of their investment portfolios as normally there is a need for capital to be sustained over a significant period of time.
In order to meet the investment objectives of these clients, Quantum has developed QPM Knowledge a distinctive method of researching and selecting suitable funds to include in portfolios.
The first difficulty encountered was the inconsistency of data from research providers and investment houses. For example, all will quote the standard deviation of a fund but how was this calculated, over what period of time and to what date does the calculation relate? If any of these factors differ then the information is not comparable.
For this reason QPM Knowledge calculates the measurement of statistical analysis using the same formulae which are applied to the weekly price movement of funds and their underlying benchmark.
Furthermore, traditional methods of fund selection rely heavily on past performance, usually comparing the returns achieved over the last 1 to 5 years. Very often the result of such research merely indicates which fund should have been bought 12 months ago, not necessarily what you should be buying now!
Whilst no one is able to accurately predict the future it is possible to consider the trend that evolves over a period of time and to search for points of inflection. Is a fund consistently delivering a return greater than its benchmark index? Is the risk adjusted return delivered by a fund improving or deteriorating? Is the price movement of a fund becoming more or less volatile? How closely does the fund follow the movement of the benchmark index and is the difference consistent?
The need for this information led to the development of QPM Knowledge - a system where funds are ranked according to a score that takes into account the out performance of a benchmark index and consistency of risk adjusted returns.
QPM Knowledge provides a visual summary, cutting through the multitude of statistics to give an "at a glance" guide to the developing trend of key indicators that may affect a fund’s future performance.
